CONTACT & FAQs :

Who can request face shields?

Anyone! We have focused our services on the San Francisco Bay Area to keep costs low (our volunteers drive and drop off boxes of face shields). However, we believe strongly that anyone should have access to PPE, so if you are outside the San Francisco Bay Area, please request and we will ship to you.

How many 3D-printed face shields can I request?

You may request as many as you like. Our orders generally range between 25-100, but we have also fulfilled requests for as few as 10 and as many as 150.

Can I only make one request for 3D-printed face shields?

No. You may make more than one request. However, we will prioritize new requests first to ensure as fair distribution as possible to as many in need as possible.

Can the 3D-printed face shield frames be reused?

Yes, they can, because the clear plastic visors can easily be removed and replaced! (We recommend wiping down the frame with alcohol between each use). Our face shield delivery will include extra plastic visors, which can easily be snapped into place to create an essentially new face shield. You may email us to request extra plastic visors if you’d like, or include this request in your order.

For Whom have you provided face shields?

We have provided 3D-printed face shields to multiple nursing homes, assisted living facilities, short and long-term health care facilities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. But we will donate to anyone in need. We believe everyone should have access to PPE.

How long does it take to receive an order once the request is placed?

We strive to deliver 3D-printed face shields within 1-2 weeks of your request. Often, the delivery occurs in 1 week. Please note that volunteers are full-time working professionals and full-time students. We work as quickly as we can.

Who are your volunteers?

Our volunteers include medical professionals, students, and teachers.

Where do 3D printing instruction and faceshield assembly occur?

We are located in Marin County, California. We limit attendance to less than 6 volunteers at any session in order to maintain social distancing. All volunteers must be asymptomatic, fully vaccinated, and provide proof of a COVID-negative test within 2 days of showing up on site. Volunteers will be temperature checked and required to wear PPE while on site. Safety for everyone is a top priority. Once you sign up for a session, you will receive an email with more information about exact location and specifics.

How long will project COVID-S.A.F.E. last?

We initially thought this project would last for roughly 6 months. But then there was the delta COVID surge, followed by the omicron COVID surge. We hope the pandemic will be over soon, but we are flexible and can ramp down or ramp up 3D face shield production as needed. We will be available for as long as there is a demand and need.

How can I help?

Look under our tab on “Get Involved” if you would like to be a volunteer - to learn about 3D printing, help assemble, or help distribute.  If you would like to donate, drop down to “Donate.”

Do I need to have a background in 3D printing to get involved?

No experience is needed! We will teach you all the basics about 3D printing and provide all materials. Our hope is to combine camaraderie with community service and learning,
